Her job was to listen. She never discussed work at home because she was not allowed to, and to be frank, she did not want to. Maybe that was why she over-compensated in social situations.
She was the centre of attention – the life and soul of the party, even when there was not a party to be the life and soul of.
Her job was to be quiet. People often associate being quiet with being shy, but they are very different things. So, she could afford to be herself and be the life and soul, talking incessantly when she had barely said a word all day. She could talk about anything, except her day.
Today her husband knew something was up and knew to leave her alone, to keep quiet. It was because she was unusually quiet. This did not mean that she did not make a noise. She was not a child. She did not weep into her pillow. She simply closed the bedroom door and sobbed.
Everyone in the house could hear.
